Google's New AI Search Report in Search Console, Explained
In June 2026, Google quietly added a brand new report inside Search Console built to show how often your pages show up inside AI Overviews and AI Mode — the AI-written answers that now appear above regular search results. It's a genuinely useful new window into your AI visibility, but it also has real gaps worth knowing before you rely on it. Here's exactly what it shows, what it leaves out, and where to find it.
What Google actually added
Search Console now has a separate report called the Generative AI performance report. It counts how many times a link to one of your pages was shown inside an AI Overview or AI Mode answer — Google calls this an "impression." That's it, for now: no clicks, no click-through rate, and no list of the exact questions people typed that caused it to show up.
Where to find it
It is not hidden inside a filter on your regular Performance report — it is its own separate report. In Search Console, go to All reports and tools → Performance reports, and look for "Generative AI performance report (Search)". There is a separate one for Discover too, if your site publishes there.
What it actually shows
You can split the impression numbers four ways:
- By page — which of your pages got shown
- By country — where the person searching was located
- By device — phone, tablet, or computer
- By date — day by day, week by week
That is useful for spotting which of your pages Google's AI features are actually picking up. What it will not tell you is which search question caused it, or whether your page was the one actually quoted in the answer versus just listed as one of several background sources.
Why you might not see it yet
Google is rolling this out slowly, not to every site at once, so not seeing it in your account yet does not mean anything is broken on your end. And even sites that already have access will see an empty report if their pages simply have not shown up in AI Overviews or AI Mode often enough to register.
What it still cannot tell you
Even once you have it, this report only answers "how often," not "how." It will not tell you whether the AI actually named your business correctly, described you accurately, or picked a competitor instead when it had the choice. For that, you still need to actually ask the AI models the kind of questions your customers would ask. That is what a live AI visibility check does — MyRankAI's free scan sends a real question to ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, and Google, and shows you the unedited answer each one gives.

Frequently asked questions
What is the Generative AI performance report in Search Console?
It's a new, separate report Google added to Search Console in June 2026. It counts how many times a link to one of your pages was shown inside an AI Overview or AI Mode answer on Google. Google calls this count an impression.
Where do I find the Generative AI performance report?
In Search Console, go to All reports and tools, then Performance reports, and look for "Generative AI performance report (Search)". It is its own report, not a filter tucked inside your regular Performance report.
Does the Generative AI performance report show clicks?
No. As of now it only shows impressions — how often your pages appeared. It does not show clicks, click-through rate, or the exact questions people typed that caused your page to appear.
Why don't I see this report in my Search Console account yet?
Google is rolling it out gradually, not to every site at once, so not seeing it yet doesn't mean anything is wrong. Even sites that do have it will see an empty report if their pages simply haven't appeared in AI Overviews or AI Mode often enough to register.
Does this report tell me what the AI actually said about my site?
No. It only tells you how often you were shown, not how you were described, whether you were the one actually quoted, or whether a competitor was picked instead. For that you need to actually ask the AI models the questions your customers would ask — which is what a live AI visibility check like MyRankAI's does.
