Bing's New AI Citation Tools in Webmaster Tools, Explained
Bing has its own AI-written answers too — inside Copilot and Bing's own AI search results — and it is a real, separate source of AI traffic from Google and ChatGPT. In June 2026, Bing Webmaster Tools added four new ways to see how often your site gets cited there: Intents, Topics, Citation Share, and Compare. They build on an earlier report called AI Performance, which Bing added back in February 2026. Here is what each one actually shows, and how to find them.
What Bing already had: the AI Performance report
Bing Webmaster Tools has had a report called AI Performance since February 2026. It shows which of your pages Copilot and Bing's AI cited, the actual questions people asked that led to the citation, and how that activity has changed over time. To see it: sign in at bing.com/webmasters, pick your verified site, and look for AI Performance in the left-hand menu.
The four new additions, in plain terms
Intents. Bing sorts each citation by the kind of question behind it — someone looking for information, someone ready to buy, someone searching for a business nearby, and more. This tells you the mood behind the traffic, not just a raw number.
Topics. Instead of looking at one exact search phrase at a time, Bing groups related questions together, so you can see how you are doing on a whole subject rather than one specific wording of it.
Citation Share. Your share of the citations for a given question, as a percentage. If Bing's AI cited five sites while answering a question like yours and you were one of them, your Citation Share for that question is 20%. It will not name or show data for the other four — just your own percentage of the total.
Compare. Lets you put two time periods side by side, so you can actually see whether your citations are climbing or falling, instead of judging from a single snapshot.
Where to find them
All four sit inside the same AI Performance report — sign in, pick your site, open AI Performance, and the new views are right there alongside the existing citation data. No extra setup beyond verifying your site, which most webmaster tools already require.
Why this matters even if you mainly think about Google
Copilot and Bing's own AI search are real, growing sources of AI-driven traffic, not just a smaller copy of Google.
